The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Optima Batteries Super Modified Two Wheel Drive division was in action for the second night in a row at The Effingham County Fairgrounds in Altamont, IL. This is the hometown event for the Nelson family, as they all grew up here, and Jared and Bethany make their home in Altamont to this day. 20 Vehicles took to the Altamont dirt, and when the dust had settled, Reese Shelton, and his New London, NC based cutting edge Ford was the victor.
Team Midnight had two trucks in the top ten at Altamont, and they were the machines of John Mumma, who parked his “After Midnight” SSR in the number 7 position with a distance of 299.51. Son in Law Jeremy Nelson would be one spot behind John, as he took the number 8 position with his distance of 298.00 aboard his 1941 Dodge known as the “Speedco Midnight Gambler”.
Husband and Wife Duo Jared Nelson and wife Bethany took 19th and 17th on the evening in their Boyd and Sons liveried machines. Jared’s pull distance was 279.83 in his “Midnight Revenger” Chevrolet. Bethany pulled her “Warrior Tracks Sweet Revenge Chevrolet” to a distance of 282.95
Congrats to Reece Shelton and Tony and Lisa Tatum on their top 3 podium Finishes.

The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling league and the Optima Batteries Super Modified Two Wheel drives had a super busy week with several days of back to back pulling in the cards. The first stop was the annual Thursday afternoon show at the Elkhart County Fair in Goshen, Indiana. This is one of the most unique events on the tour, as the pull literally goes on from Sun up to Sun down.
Jeremy Nelson would be the star for team Midnight in Goshen, as he took his famed “Speedco Midnight Gambler” to a third place finish with his distance of 316.09. When asked if he would’ve done something differently if given the chance, Nelson said that he may have refrained from feathering the brake a time or two during the pass.
Jared Nelson would be next best for Midnight Motorsports on the day at Goshen as he put his new “Boyd and Sons Midnight Revenger in the top ten with a solid tenth place effort. The Altamont, IL based driver had a distance of 300.51.
Philo, Illinois based pilot John Mumma would be next in line for the team with his distance of 291.58 which put him into the number 17 position on the evening.
Rounding out the evening for Midnight Motorsports would be Bethany Nelson, She finished in the 20 position.
Congratulations to Ricky Long who took both number 1 and 2 positions home in Goshen.
The drivers loaded up in Goshen and will head straight to Altamont, IL for the next event.

The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League rolled into The Clinton County Fairgrounds in Wilmington, OH for their 3rd tour stop on the Champions Tour for the Optima Batteries Super Modified Two Wheel Drive Trucks. The action is always hotly contested in Wilmington, as we see a mix of both state level and national competitors invading the region.
The track on this evening was a challenging surface and the pullers had to treat it very carefully to avoid being sucked into a rut, lots of the drivers had a hard time with the track wanting to dip them in close to the chalk line and dangerously close to the out of bounds line, Brakes were the order of the evening, and finding the best hole shot would be key.
Jeremy Nelson, and his familiar blue and white Speedco Midnight Gambler made a fine pass with a distance of 294.54 which put the Sidney, IL based pilot in the 22nd spot on the evening. Early draws meant the track was a bit trickier than later.
Bethany Nelson also had a tricky early hook to deal with, and she managed to make a strong pass in her new Warrior tracks sponsored “Sweet Revenge” Chevrolet. Bethany’s distance of 305.57 would garner her the number 19 spot at Wilmington.
Next up would be John Mumma, and his Philo, IL based “After Midnight” Chevy SSR. John came into Wilmington fresh of a clean sweep at the TS Performance outlaw truck and tractor pull and he was hoping to duplicate his performance. John took the machine out to a distance of 309.34 which would put him in the 16th finishing position.
Jared Nelson, was the last to hook of all the Midnight Vehicles, and he utilized what he learned by watching the majority of the class hook, and sharing information with his teammates. Jared and his Boyd and Sons Machinery sponsored “Midnight Revenger” burned in at a distance of 327.00 which put him solidly in the top ten. A sixth place finish belonged to Jared on this night.
In the end, Dr. Tim Messer was the victor in Wilmington, driving his “Wide Open” Chevy.
The Optima Batteries Super Modified Two Wheelers have a three week break and are back in action in Fairfield, IL on July 11.
Stay tuned to www.midnightpulling.com for future updates, blogs, and stories from the road, and as always thank you for your interest in Midnight Motorsports.
Hello Midnight Pulling fans from PhiloAfter 4 years of trying we finally had the HAMMER DOWN pull with out any rain. The crowd was big the pulling equipment was great and the track was good.We had 14 in the twd class. They came from Tn, Ohio, MO, IL and Wi. We had NTPA Champions, we had PPL Champions and we had State Champions. The field was of trucks was great. I hooked at the bottom of the class and ended up 2nd in the class. The winner was Wayne Timmerman from Wisconsin. Congrats to him for making a outstanding pass.I would like to THANK every one in all the classes for coming and making this event a success. With out all of you it would not happen! THANKS again Thanks to Jared Little for all work he does all year to get everything ready for the pull. No one know how many hours he puts in to make this event work. I also want to thank Rich Walden (Mike Walden’s brother) for all the work he does to make this event a success. There are so many others to thank for all they do to get ready for the event THANKS to all of you.We are getting ready to make the trip to the Champions Tour event in Wilmington OH this weekend. As many of you know it is just North of KINGS ISLAND and I think some grand kids are wanting to stop by on the way there. We might be going a day early to visit. If you are going to be at the event please stop by and say hi we are always happy to talk to each one of you. As always HAMMER DOWN!!!
WOW what a start to the 2015 season! we started in Saluda SC. The first night I was very disappointed how I finished. I ended up 18th. What made it so disappointing to me was the truck ahead of me and the truck behind me were in the top 5. So on Saturday afternoon we made some changes to the truck’s gearing. That night was a lot better for me as I finished 3rd. I was first hook and held the lead until Bethany went flying by me. I was happy for her.
The next weekend we were in Franklin Ky. What a weekend for me. I won on Friday night and backed it up with a win on Saturday. What even made it better was Midnight Motorsports was 1-2-3 on Friday and on Saturday night Jeremy was 2nd.
Now we are working on helping to get things ready for the HAMMER DOWN pull this weekend in Urbana Il. We hoping that the rain stays away.
As always HAMMER DOWN
